A short essay on the Merger of Hermetic Tradition into Christianity
(Hermes left Christ right)
(Beautiful Hermetic Art containing deep truths>>)
You may have come across the movie "Zeitgeist" on Netflix or watch something similar on Youtube claiming that Christianity "forged" all their documents from ancient source material from Babylon, Egypt ect. Thinking on this you might wonder where they obtained this knowledge from? And why did they leave out something so important I am about to touch on. Did the Christians go around the world and hunt down ideas from other cultures theologies and mythologies to put together the Bible? I would say no to this. In fact the answer can be summed up in 2 words, and they are Hermetic Tradition.
You see, during the time of the birth of Christianity, as a religion, the Hermetic and Gnostic Christians shared similar philosophies on God, The One, The all being, The Creator of time, space, and the cosmos. This time period was a vacuum for Mystical, Theological, and Philosophical ideas, as the old dynasty had fallen allowing a new philosophy on God to arise. The Corpus Hermeticum and all writing related Hermes the Thrice Great were deeply intrenched in the readings of the Gnostic Christian Theologians, Philosophers, and Priests/Monks. Noe-Platonic and Pythagorean concepts were also ingested. These teaching included those of Thoth, of Egyptian Myth, and of Hermes or Hermas and Hermes Trismegistus ( Signature used by followers not a "real" person. An archetype). The texts are the origin of As above, So below, to paraphrase, which is similar in concept to "On earth, as it is in Heaven". I did no set out to write this as a way to convince anyone of anything, so I am going to keep the examples of "forgery" to a limit. The loss of the Library of Alexandria has left us with a small amount of these text but there depth is great and they contain much Gnosis of the cosmos. The teaching can be seen in those of Jesus or Y'shua.
The "Church Fathers", as Mead calls them in Thrice Greatest Hermes Vol.1, Passed on this Gnosis which found its self in the central teaching of the New Testament. Christianity, being the winner in the early battle for dominance, ended up pushing its distant cousin, aside and below. Even stooping to demonize Hermetic Work. It is unfortunate that we live in a world were opinions cannot be open when it comes to God. That was, and is, the future The Hermetic Tradition passed on for us to build. It is a never ending Work to better all. It is what Hermes Trismegistus represents. He is in all of us and everything that surrounds us with no dogmas attached.
