Akhenaten and his Aten (sun) cult of materialism
Akhenaten with the phallic head dress. Representative of Aten (the Sun). The Sun is destructive when not properly balanced with the night. Light must be diffused, or you will be blinded to true Gnosis and Reason. The Good comes from the scales balancing the 2 opposites.
Notice the hands of Aten (Sun) taking material objects
Akhenaten (soul of Aten or soul of the Sun) saw only materialism in my opinion. He left behind the important aspects of Egyptian Theology, such as, balance, mind, mythological metaphors, zodiacal elements etc. (Enead/Ogdoad). So, it is then, easy to see why his new Aten Cult caused such an uproar with the High Priests of Egypt. Those theological ideals that he ignored were extremely important when it came to understanding the workings of man's Mind, the Cosmos, and the equilibrium that must be sustain within the Universe and Humanity.
"On each day, the Royal Family approached the temple on chariots after riding up and down the Royal Road,[4] and entered the temple precinct and presented offerings in front of the Gem-Aten.[1] The King and Queen then consecrated their offerings with the hrp while their daughters rattled instruments called sistra.[1] The family then passed through the pylons of the Gem-Aten and mounted the steps of the High Altar where there were offerings of meat, poultry, vegetables, and flowers already laid out and surmounted by three pans of burning incense.[1] As the King and Queen officiated, priests then placed offerings on many of the other altars for the public people while music was played. The Princesses continued to rattle the sistra while four male chanters sang hymns to the Aten within the Gem-Aten court.[1] Outside the Gem-Aten were female musicians who performed along with the temple choir which was made up of blind singers and a blind harpist. These musicians performed at intervals throughout the day and were never allowed beyond the outer court.[1] " - Wikipedia
